About the organization

The idea of the India International Centre was initially proposed in 1958 by John D. Rockefeller III to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, then Vice-President of India. • On 15 April 1960 the first sod of earth on site was turned by Smt. Kamaladevi Chattopadhyaya, a Life Trustee and the first VicePresident of the IIC. On 30 November of the same year, the foundation stone was laid by Prince Akihito, then the Crown Prince of Japan. • On 22 January 1962 the India International Centre was formally inaugurated by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan
