CTET (Central Teachers Eligibility Test) is a national level examination which is conducted by CBSE twice in a year (July and December) to certify the eligibility of candidates to be appointed as teachers at Primary and Upper Primary levels in schools across the country. It also gives an opportunity to join central government schools such as NVS, KVS, Tibetan School etc. as a teacher. CTET has two levels/papers - Primary and Upper Primary. Candidates who want to teach Class I to V need to take Paper I exam and those who want to teach Class V to VIII need to take Paper-II exam.

If a candidate satisfies the eligibility criterion, there are no restrictions to choose any one of the test papers. Candidates can either appear in CTET 2020 Paper 1 or Paper 2 or they can appear in both the test papers simultaneously.

CTET 2020 Exam Pattern:
CTET 2020 exam will be in two phases – Paper I and Paper II.
- Paper I is conducted to recruit Primary Level Teacher for Class I to V.
- Paper II is conducted to recruit Upper Primary Level Teacher for Class VI to VIII.

Eligibility as per CTET 2020 notification:
Eligibility to teach classes I to V
- A candidate who has completed Senior Secondary or its equivalent exam with minimum 50% marks and cleared or appearing in final year exam of Diploma in Elementary Education (2 years duration) OR
- A candidate who has completed Senior Secondary or its equivalent exam securing minimum 45% marks and has cleared or appearing in final year exam of Diploma in Elementary Education (2 years duration), according to the NCTE Regulations 2002. OR
- A candidate who has completed Senior Secondary or its equivalent test with minimum 50% marks and has cleared or appearing in final year exam of Bachelor of Elementary Education (4 years duration).OR
- A candidate who has completed Senior Secondary or its equivalent test with minimum 50% marks and has cleared or appearing in final year exam of Diploma in Education (2 years duration). OR
- A candidate who has a Bachelor’s degree and has cleared or appearing in final year exam of Diploma in Elementary Education (2 years duration).
Eligibility to teach classes VI to VIII
- A candidate who holds a Graduation degree and has passed or is appearing in final year examination of Diploma in Elementary Education (2 years duration). OR
- A candidate who has completed his/her Graduation degree with 50% marks and has cleared or appearing in the final year exam of Bachelor in Education. OR
- A candidate who has completed his/her Graduation degree with 40% marks and has cleared or appearing in the final year exam of Bachelor in Education, according to NCTE regulations. OR
- A candidate who has completed Senior Secondary or its equivalent test with minimum 50% marks and has cleared or appearing in final year exam of 4 years duration Bachelor of Elementary Education. OR
- A candidate who has completed Senior Secondary or its equivalent exam with 50% marks and cleared or appearing in final year exam of B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed or B.A/B.Sc.Ed. OR
- A candidate who has a Graduation degree with 50% marks and has cleared or appearing in B.Ed. program of 1-year duration.

In order to secure qualifying marks in CTET 2020, candidates appearing in the exam must thoroughly go through the syllabus of CTET 2020.
CTET syllabus 2020: Paper 1
The syllabus of the CTET 2020 exam comprises:
1. Child Development & Pedagogy (30 questions)
* Child Development (Elementary School Child) - 15 Questions
* Concept of Inclusive education and understanding children with special needs - 5 Questions
* Learning and Pedagogy - 10 Questions
2, 3. Language I & II (30 questions each)
* Language Comprehension: 15 Questions
* Pedagogy of Language Development: 15 Questions
4. Mathematics (30 questions)
* Content: 15 Questions
Numbers, Simplifications, Measurement, Geometry, Data Handling etc.
* Pedagogical issues: 15 Questions
5. Environmental Studies (30 questions)
* Content: 15 Questions
Family, Friends, Food, Shelter, Water, Travel etc.

CTET syllabus 2020: Paper 2
The basic syllabus remains the same in both Paper I and Paper II of CTET 2020. However, there is a noticeable difference in the difficulty level of Paper I and Paper II. Also, in Paper II, there are additional papers of Maths/Science and Social Science/Social Studies.
The syllabus for the CTET 2020 exam comprises:
1. Child Development & Pedagogy (30 questions)
* Child Development (Elementary School Child) - 15 Questions
* Concept of Inclusive education and understanding children with special needs - 5 Questions
* Learning and Pedagogy - 10 Questions
2, 3. Language I & II (30 questions each)
* Language Comprehension: 15 Questions
* Pedagogy of Language Development: 15 Questions
4. A. Mathematics and Science (30 questions each)
* Maths Content: 20 Questions
Numbers, Simplifications, Measurement, Geometry, Data Handling etc.
* Maths Pedagogical issues: 10 Questions

Food, Materials, Living Things, Natural Resources, Natural Phenomena etc.

5. B. Social Science/Social Studies (60 questions)

The Syllabus of CTET 2020 for both the papers are designed to assess the capabilities of candidates to teach primary and upper primary level students. The detailed syllabus for CTET 2020 is designed in such a way that it thoroughly check candidates understanding for different levels respectively.
Important Points:
* As per CTET 2020 notification, candidates can choose any two languages for their Language I and Language II papers out of twenty languages all over India.

* Main language paper shall be Bilingual (Hindi/English).
* Candidate can fill the application form, download their admit cards and check their results 'online' through CTET’s official "website www.ctet.nic.in"
* Mode of payment:
- by debit/credit card
- through e-challan by depositing the prescribed fee in CTET Exam Fee Account with Syndicate Bank or Canara Bank.
* With reference to the CTET 2020 notification, mode of the exam would be online for both Paper I and II.
* Questions will be of Objective type/ MCQs.
* The CTET exam result will be declared within 6 weeks after the exam.
* The candidates scoring 60% and above will get a CTET eligibility certificate.
* There is no negative marking in the exam as per CTET 2020 notification.
* The qualifying marks for reserved candidates to get CTET eligibility certificate is 55%
* The questions in Paper I and II will be based on the NCERT syllabus for classes I to V and VI to VIII respectively. However, the difficulty level is expected to be of secondary and senior secondary level.
* Candidates who qualify the CTET 2020 exam will be awarded the CTET eligibility certificate which remains valid for 7 years.
* There is no restriction on the number of attempts a person can take for acquiring a CTET Certificate.
* CTET 2020 notification says that a person who has qualified CTET may also appear again to improve his/her scores.
* There is no age limit to take the CTET exam.
